Fall is a fantastic time to find fun local things to do. Check out these autumn activities around Ballinger, TX sure to make your season one to remember.

1. Festival Fun

In late October, Old Town Old Time’s Fall Festival and BBQ Cookoff at 8601 US Highway 67 brings the community together for a festive weekend of delicious food and dance-worthy live music. Entrants can compete for the chance to take home prize money in three categories: chicken, ribs, or brisket. A rousing concert featuring top bands and singers fills the evening and night with festivity.

In addition to the main events, a host of incredible autumn-themed activities await, including pumpkin carving and chucking, sack races, face painting, and Halloween delights featuring a haunted house and a costume contest. Plus, the family can enjoy a petting zoo and take a tour of the many vendors on-site. If you want to make it a full weekend experience, overnight camping is also available. Score a two-day pass for just $15, with an extra charge for the concert experience.

2. Friday Night Lights

What better defines Fridays in a small town than its football? Every Friday night from mid-August to early November, 2107 N. Broadway’s Ballinger High Bearcats take to the field around 7 PM and take on rivals ranging from Anson to Stamford. Homecoming in September is always a memorable night, as are the special events like Parent’s Night.

Cheer all the touchdowns or other unforgettable plays at Bearcat Stadium. And tailgate in style with the Chevy Silverado. This four-door pickup beast provides all the space you need to haul your essentials and enough firepower to take the party off-road with confidence.

3. Lone Star Market

Located in Ballinger’s beating heart at 608 Railroad (the Wool and Mohair Warehouse), this vintage marketplace comes your way in late October. Admission is free for kids under 12 and just $6 for everyone else. With this ticket, you’ll get access to a warehouse (and a street) brimming with all things classic: handmade crafts, antique furniture, jewelry, boutique items, art, and more.

4. Halloween Frights

Runnels County is full of ghost towns, so it’s only fitting that the month of haunts gets its proper due in Ballinger. The legendary Olde Park Hotel at 107 S. 6th St. is the place to be if you want an authentic ghostly tour. Around Halloween time, the 1886-era hotel pays homage to its haunted legacy (where dozens of spirits and Ginny the haunted doll reportedly linger) by allowing participation in real paranormal investigations, complete with an overnight sleepover.

See what goes bump in the night at this famed locale for yourself…if you dare. Or if you want a more traditional haunted house experience, the hotel hosts HalloScream (Freakshow Undead) just before Halloween. For the admission price of $10, you can walk through this spooky destination and be treated to all the jump-scares you can handle. Even if Halloween’s not your holiday, you can always enjoy a cozy autumn weekend at this quaint bed and breakfast.
