1. San Angelo State Park

Open every day between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, this public recreation area sits on the shores of the O.C. Fisher Reservoir and was established in the 1980s.

Constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this state park encompasses an area of almost 550 acres and offers excellent opportunities for a variety of recreational activities.

Lake Brownwood State Park is located just 70 miles east of the Ballinger city center, making it possible to reach it in a little over one hour by car via route US-67. Some of the activities you can enjoy in this public recreation area include boating, fishing, and swimming in Lake Brownwood, as well as camping, hiking, and mountain biking in the surrounding areas.

3. Abilene State Park

Located about 40 miles north of Ballinger, Abilene State Park is another wonderful recreational destination that can be reached in about 45 minutes by car via route US-83. Established in the early 1930s on the shores of Lake Abilene, this state park features a series of hiking trails, a large grove of elm, oak, and cedar trees, camping areas, and picnic spots in a territory of over 500 acres.
